A Sense of Home

A Sense of Home is a small, intimate installation that brings a piece of my house in Kosovo into the heart of Köln. The work is created from the archive of my father, Bajram Zymberi (1950–2023), one of the first photographers in Gjilan, Kosovo, and from the memories of my late mother, who appears in the footage he lovingly captured. These images and objects shaped my childhood and my understanding of what home feels like. After losing both of my parents in 2023, their archive became the space where I could return to feel close to them again and find meaning in life.

In this new version of the project, I am not returning home; instead, I am carrying home with me. I am bringing the memories, stories, and objects that formed my early world into a new space. My aim is to share with the people of Köln the warmth, connection, and love that my parents always gave me, a love that still lives inside the archive they left behind.
