A UNHCR-funded illustrated booklet created to help refugees recognise and better understand the psychological impact of trauma throughout their journeys.
The idea emerged from mentoring refugees in transit, where the need for a simple, reliable source of support became clear. The booklet was envisioned as a small, accessible companion that people could carry with them and turn to when facing overwhelming situations.
Through clear language and illustrations, it explains how trauma can affect the mind and body, helping readers make sense of what they may be feeling. By presenting these reactions as natural responses to extraordinary circumstances, the booklet aims to reduce fear and stigma and encourage people to seek support when they need it.
To reach as many communities as possible, the booklet has been translated into eight languages: Albanian, English, Arabic, Serbian, Turkish, French, Farsi and Urdu.
